The Flower of Shower

Despite a natural distaste for flowers this little machine is perhaps our favorite discovery. The challenge was how to capture and release water and at the same time find a way to measure the amount of water passing through the cleaners. After a few days of brainstorming we arrived at the solution. The whole flower is set upon a raft which is hinged and floats upon the surface of the water. The stem of the flower is composed of a very long extension spring and has a steel tube running up most of its length in order to effectively determine the bending point of the spring. As the flower fills up with water the non-hinged side of the float platform begins to sink into the water changing the direction of the force on the spring and eventually the weight overcomes the resistance of the spring and it tips over spilling water into the basin; when empty it returns to its original position to begin filling up again. A cable is attached to the neck of the flower and when it tips over, somewhat violently, it pulls upon the Bug-o-Meter
